The Guntram Legend – earliest written version 787 (France). A translation of a Gaelic telling collected by Seosamh Ó Dálaigh from Peig Sayers in Dun Chaoin in 1943. Another Blasket Island version appears in O’Sullivan’s Fiche Blian ag Fás.
This is my contribution to a 24-hour Hakaya Live Stream of stories for Gaza that went out over the 11th/12th of November 2024 from Jordan. Written and recorded in great haste, it contains a few mistakes – I said ‘Protectorate’ instead of Mandate (the post-WW1 British authority in Palestine). I was also mistaken in the number of Israeli child hostages at the time of the recording.

The recording of this one-man show originated by Jack, is a guided tour through a semi-fictional Cavan landscape. It features the picaresque doings of one P.J. Galligan, local entrepreneur, Greek scholar, wake fancier, keen polluter, demolition artist, and CEO of Galligan Destruction. You’ll hear scurrilous tales of PJ’s hapless employees and bewildered neighbours – a cornucopia of colourful accidents, foreign jaunts and grotesque upshots.
